Brief History

HISTORY

The Bachelor of Psychology Study Program was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education No 37/M/KP/III/2015 under the auspices of the Faculty of Education (FIP) UNY, followed by the Decree of the Rector of UNY No 253 dated June 12 2015 regarding the establishment of the Department of Psychology FIP UNY. Since then the Department of Psychology is formally created. As a new department, the department has to learn a lot from various universities that already have a department or Faculty of Psychology as well as trends in the world of Psychology and the needs of the community, especially related to the curriculum.

Curriculum development in the Psychology Department of UNY must refer to the results of the annual meeting of the Association of Indonesian Psychology Higher Education Providers (AP2TPI) regarding learning outcomes and the main qualifications and competencies of Bachelor of Psychology based on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework. In addition to referring to the results of the colloquium, as mentioned earlier, the curriculum development of the Psychology Department which is described in the courses takes into account the development of Psychological Science obtained from various latest references, both from textbooks, handbooks, and scientific journal studies, considering the curriculum design of several Universities, both domestically and abroad, the needs of the community are known from the sensitivity to problems related to current human behavior in various domains and settings, as well as the service users of Bachelor of Psychology.

From this study, it is concluded that various problems related to human behavior currently require the contribution of Psychology in helping to solve various problems. Through a focused approach and in-depth analysis of human behavior, as well as various matters relating to self-development and interactions between humans in various settings of human life, it reinforces that the role of concepts and applications of Psychology are needed in various fields. However, although psychology is a pure science and can be applied, solving problems related to humans requires other sciences, such as various kinds of education and/or sociology, so that problems can be solved comprehensively and multidimensionally.
