Yogyakarta, December 12, 2024 — The Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), held a Guest Lecture titled Healthy Living for Mental Health: How to Manage Stress and Anxiety. The event, hosted at the Abdullah Sigit Hall, 3rd Floor, featured Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Bin Che Amat, K.B; P.A., a prominent expert in mental health, as the keynote speaker.
The event began with a warm welcome from the Vice Dean II of FIPP UNY, who highlighted the importance of inter-university collaboration in broadening academic perspectives. This was followed by remarks from the Vice Dean III, emphasizing the strategic partnership between FIPP UNY and UPM in advancing education and training programs tailored to global needs.
The main session commenced with an introduction to UPM as a leading educational institution, inspiring participants to understand how institutions play a pivotal role in supporting mental health. The speaker then delivered an insightful session on mental health, focusing on stress and its management.
The speaker elaborated on the two types of stress: eustress (positive stress that motivates) and distress (negative stress that hinders). He also outlined the signs of good mental health, such as emotional regulation, healthy social relationships, and productivity. Additionally, he explored the causes of stress, including psychosocial factors such as work pressure and interpersonal relationships, as well as physical factors like fatigue and sleep disturbances.
The session concluded with an expression segment, where participants were encouraged to share their daily experiences and reflect on the material presented. This event not only provided valuable knowledge but also motivated participants to understand the importance of maintaining mental health as part of a healthy lifestyle.
The collaboration between FIPP UNY and UPM is expected to continue, fostering opportunities for partnerships in other areas. This event serves as a tangible effort to promote mental health, both within academic environments and in the broader community.
