On May 31, 2024, the Community Service Team (PPM) from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a psychological intervention at Yogyakarta Class IIA Detention Center. The activity aimed to enhance the hope among detainees and prisoners, who are recognized as a population vulnerable to psychological issues. The intervention was led by Mr. Banyu Wicaksono, M.Sc., a lecturer from the Department of Psychology at UNY.
Hope was chosen as the focus of the intervention because it is considered a protective factor that can help individuals cope with difficult situations, especially in environments like detention centers. The participants consisted of 24 detainees who were selected by the partner institution from the Class IIA Detention Center.
The intervention successfully had a positive impact on the psychological aspect of the detainees, particularly in enhancing their confidence in achieving their goals (agency). Moving forward, similar interventions are expected to be carried out as a form of support for vulnerable populations such as detainees and prisoners, aiming to improve their psychological well-being.
Through this activity, UNY once again demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling its role in community service, particularly in the context of psychological empowerment for vulnerable groups.
