Yogyakarta, March 4, 2025 – As part of the validation process for the marriage readiness instrument for Indonesian society, two teams of lecturers from the Department of Psychology at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a trial of the measurement tool and a mini seminar in two different locations, Ambon and Mataram, on February 24-26, 2025. This research is funded by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) as part of the effort to develop a marriage readiness measurement tool that aligns with the culture and characteristics of Indonesian society.
The first team, consisting of Dr. Siti Rohmah Nurhayati, M.Si., Psikolog., and Nesya Adira, M.Si., visited two institutions in Ambon: the Regional Board of Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama (PWFNU) Maluku and the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Ambon. They were welcomed by the Vice-Rector II of IAIN Ambon. In addition to testing the marriage readiness measurement tool, this team also carried out a community service program (PPM) in the form of a seminar titled “Marriage Preparation Towards a Sakinah Family” in collaboration with PWFNU Maluku. This activity aimed to provide insights and understanding of marriage readiness from psychological and social perspectives.
Meanwhile, the second team, consisting of Prof. Dr. Farida Agus Setiawati, M.Si., Psikolog., and Nadya Anjani Rismarini, M.Psi., Psikolog., traveled to Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), with the primary objective of visiting Nahdlatul Ulama University of West Nusa Tenggara (UNU NTB). At UNU NTB, this team also conducted a trial of the marriage readiness measurement tool and held a mini seminar on marriage readiness for students and the local community.
Both teams shared the same main agenda: testing the validity and reliability of the marriage readiness instrument under development. The trial aimed to ensure that the measurement tool could accurately and effectively identify various aspects of marriage readiness for Indonesian society. Additionally, the mini seminars held at each location were expected to raise awareness about the importance of mental, emotional, and social preparedness before entering married life.
This initiative marks a significant step in developing an instrument that can be utilized by various stakeholders, including educational institutions, religious organizations, and the general public, to better understand and assess an individual's readiness for marriage. The research findings are expected to contribute to policies and educational programs related to marriage in Indonesia.
